About Sisal

Sisal is a naturally strong and hardwearing fibre extracted from the Agave Sisalana plant that grows in the arid regions of East Africa and Brazil.

Traditionally used for making ropes sisal’s uniquely tactile quality makes it a popular choice for luxurious home furnishings. The fleshy leaves are cut by hand then crushed and washed to remove impurities. The remaining fibres are dried and graded ready to be spun into yarn. Bordered Rugs uses only the highest quality sisal fibres to produce individually designed sisal rugs and runners in a range of classic weaves. Sisal is one of our most durable materials. Sisal suitability & care

Sisal rugs require simple maintenance to preserve their beauty and durability, The amount of traffic / footfall will determine the level of care needed.

Sisal is unsuitable for use in any areas where high moisture levels are likely.

Preferred cleaning methods for Sisal: Avoid water-based products and scrubbing. Opt for dry cleaning or use a dry-cleaning compound, or get our specially formulated cleaning kit.

Intec Stain Protection Treatment

For peace of mind Bordered Rugs offers Intec stain protection treatment. Intec works by coating every fibre in a polymer shield, which reduces the impact of spills and watermarks. Intec is environmentally friendly, completely safe and does not affect the colour or the texture of your rug. This option can be selected at the checkout for a small extra cost.
